The Refined Red Gem is an Eye craftable only by Wonder Why in the Wonder Why Filter, Refined Materials Filter and Healing Filter. It requires 5% durability of a Broken Ancient Crank and 1 Red Gem to craft, and an Ancient Jewel Grindstone to make. Like all items from the Grindstone Tab, Refined Red Gems cannot be prototyped and Wonder Why always needs to be near an Ancient Jewel Grindstone to craft them again.
Characters that aren't Wonder Why can give it the use of crushing it at the Terra Firma Tamper or at the Ancient Jewel Disposer.
It is one of Wonder Why's starting items.
Basic effects while equipped
While equipped at an Ancient Despair Mask or a Prosthetic Mask it will grant Wonder Why the following special effects:
- Regens 1
every 60 seconds at the cost of 20 
(can't regen 
). - Better results from healing food items, from (1/20)-1 healing needed to restore 1 Endurance to (1/20). Can heal .
Enhanced effects while equipped
While equipped at a Face of Denial it will grant Wonder Why the following enhanced special effects:
- Regens 1 every 30 seconds at the cost of 20 .
- Regens 1 (Only when you have the base 6 filled) every 60 seconds at the cost of 20 .
- Better results from healing food items, from (1/20)-1 healing needed to restore 1 Endurance to (1/10)-1. Can heal .
Usage

Tips
- Because the names of refined gems are long, the community often shortens Refined Red Gem as Red Eye.
- Until you get a Face of Denial it is recommended to not use it on dangerous situations as any hit can break it while wearing basic masks.
- If you accidentally break it you can replace it with a Butterfly Eye until you get a replacement.
- The 3 souls that crushing a Refined Red Gem at an Ancient Jewel Disposer drops can't be picked up by Wortox, they'll just turn into healing for nearby players instantly.
Trivia
- Even though the Refined Red Gem has no abilities related to heat or fire many characters hint at their quotes that it is so warm it could burn things out.
- The Refined Red Gem was introduced in the first release of the mod, New Ancient Dreams 1.0 [ACT 1] update.
