The Broken Ancient Crank is an equipable hands slot item craftable only by Wonder Why in the Wonder Why Filter and Tools Filter. It requires 2 Thulecite Fragments and 1 Living Log to craft, and an Alchemy Engine to prototype. It has 20 uses, and each use for refining gems or hitting will reduce its durability by 5%.
Used only by Wonder Why to refine gems at the Ancient Jewel Grindstone or used as an ingredient to make different tools at the Divine Globe Clock.

Tips
- Thulecite Fragments are craftable for Wonder Why so you can make the Broken Ancient Crank without going to the caves.
- If you aren't lucky at getting a Living Log at the surface you can go to the Lunar Grotto and kill some Mush Gnomes and because it is nearby you can go to the Ancient Archive for the Thulecite Fragments, Thulecite, Moon Rocks and the 2 Iridiscent Gems.
- You can leave the Broken Ancient Crank at low durability (up to 5%) to make your special tools/weapons without wasting extra materials.
- The Broken Ancient Crank is equippable but you shouldn't equip it because while in your hand you can't use it for crafting, it does nothing special while you hold it and hitting with it will waste 5% durability.
Trivia
- The Broken Ancient Crank was introduced in the first release of the mod, Ver. 1.0 [ACT 1 Update] .
- The Broken Ancient Crank was going to have an upgraded version named "compleated ancient crank" that also was a material to make the "ancient paddle" but both ideas got scrapped.
- The concepts for the Ancient Life Peeler, the Aurora Borealis and the Night Piercer were made before the Broken Ancient Crank was thought of.
