The Refined Purple Gem is an Eye craftable only by Wonder Why in the Wonder Why Filter, Refined Materials Filter and Magic Filter. It requires 5% durability of a Broken Ancient Crank and 1 Purple Gem to craft, and an Ancient Jewel Grindstone to make. Like all items from the Grindstone Tab, Refined Purple Gems cannot be prototyped and Wonder Why always needs to be near an Ancient Jewel Grindstone to craft them again.

Characters that aren't Wonder Why can give it the use of crushing it at the Terra Firma Tamper or at the Ancient Jewel Disposer.

Basic effects while equipped

While equipped at an Ancient Despair Mask or a Prosthetic Mask it will grant Wonder Why the following special effects:

• It allows Wonder Why to experience the effects of 0 sanity without actually setting Wonder Why's sanity to 0, similar to the Purple Amulet. The screen will become distorted with the usual low Sanity effects, and more Shadow Creatures will spawn and faster than while under normal insanity.

Enhanced effects while equipped

While equipped at a Face of Denial it will grant Wonder Why the following enhanced special effects:

• It allows Wonder Why to experience the effects of 0 sanity without actually setting Wonder Why's sanity to 0, similar to the Purple Amulet. The screen will become distorted with the usual low Sanity effects, and more Shadow Creatures will spawn and faster than while under normal insanity.
• Provides +20% damage and speed at night, always activated at Caves.

Usage

Consumes 80 sanity in exchange of a whole day of nightvision, not stackable.

Tips

• Because the names of refined gems are long, the community often shortens Refined Purple Gem as "R.Purple Gem" or "Purple Eye".
• Wonder Why most of the time will be at high sanity so the Refined Purple Gem can be used to farm your needed Nightmare Fuel.
• The Refined Purple Gem can be used to have low lunacy.
• If you don't have the Ancient Discordant Rod or you simply don't want to use 5 sanity per Telepoof you can use this Eye to pass the Obelisks of the Atrium

• According to the survivors if you hold the Refined Purple Gem you will already start feeling its effects in your mind.
• The Refined Purple Gem was introduced in the first release of the mod, Ver. 1.0 [ACT 1 Update] .
